Mairena is located in the heart of the eastern Alpujarras, Andulucia, southern Spain.  The area known as Las Alpujarras is located between the mountain range of The Sierra Nevada and the lower Sierra de La Contraviesa . This picturesque region is dominated by magnificent mountain landscape and spectacular scenic views.

Mairena is a very traditional Spanish village full of charm and character.  A peaceful, rural position surrounded by incredible natural beauty.  The area is rich in history and culture and has a diverse background.

The village is equal distance between the vibrant city of Granada to the north and the charming coastal town of Almeria to the South. It has a good all year round sunny climate with hot summers and very mild winters.

There is something for everyone, a relaxing holiday surrounded by unspoilt beauty or a fun packed trip for the whole family with plenty of outdoor activities on the doorstep: walking, hiking, mountain bike riding, and horse riding.

Cortijo El Ejido is ideally located for easy access to the stunning Coastal Natural Parque of Cabo de Gata. Here you will find some of Spain’s best and unspoilt beaches, away from the crowds. It takes about 90 mins to get to San Jose, the main village in the parque. Closer to the house is Adra on the coast which takes about 40 mins.

Cross country skiing is available at Puerto de la Ragua, 30 mins drive from the house. Here there is a restaurant, bar and equipment hire.

The historic and culturally important city of Granada is a 90 minute drive fro Cortijo El Ejido. The city offers the visitor a host of outstanding attractions including the Alhambra Palace and Generalife Gardens, the city’s moorish ‘medina’, the Albaicin and the impressive cathedral. With an extensive range of bars, restaurants and shops catering for all budgets, Granada makes an ideal destination for a day trip.
