Cortijo El Ejido will be your base for the week. The Cortijo is located in the Alpujarras, Andalucía, Southern Spain and is approximately 90 minutes by car from Almeria to the south and approximately the same time from Granada to the north. The area is a quiet remote part of the Spain where donkeys still provide transport for the local farmers. The region was made popular by Chris Stewart in his book ‘Driving over Lemons’. Cortijo El Ejido is a short walk from the lovely and traditional white village of Mairena, where you will find a shop, a great restaurant serving traditional Spanish food and a couple of small bars. The residential accommodation is located on the ground floor and offers four twin rooms, two kitchens, two dining rooms and two bathrooms. The teaching studio is located on the first floor with fantastic natural light and incredible views across the Alpujarras. There is a small plunge pool to cool down in and over a hectare of olive and almond groves to explore at your leisure.

Over the four and a half days in the studio, you will have fun experimenting with the technique of linocut to create a series of multi coloured, layered prints using a single piece of lino. Play with cloud, texture and masking to produce exciting prints. This course is suitable for all levels, the only requirement is a willingness to experiment and have fun. During the week there will be plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside of the Las Alpujarras. In the evenings where dinner is not provided we will take you to one of the local white villages where you will have time to explore and soak up the atmosphere in this small corner of forgotten Spain. There is a very informative local museum in Ugijar and we are happy to arrange a trip there for those visiting the area for the first time. There will be a mid-week has day in the studio and in the afternoon, we will arrange a long leisurely lunch at one of the area’s traditional restaurants.
